Fiery Tentacle Twist - Feeping Creatures monster figurine

Waiting for random knights to show up and storm the castle can be lonely, dull work. Hence, the typical tentacle twist composes angsty poetry to pass the time.

Waiting here in solitude,
Upon the loneliness I brood.
Guarding treasures is my lot,
But such trinkets please me not.
I yearn only to be free
of self-imposed captivity!

As you may have gleaned, the tentacles are really just for show. The monster intends to slay the hero with bad verse.

Probably evolved in Madagascar or somewhere like that. This may be true of all feeps, for all I know.

My guess is that this creature reproduces by budding - once the number of tentacles becomes cumbersome, a little batch of them will detach and a wee new tentacle horror is born.

Squid Twist

Now here's a puzzle for the feepologist: is this tentacle twist experiencing convergent evolution with a squid, or is it perhaps engaging in a bit of mimicry in order to fool predators?

Coil Twist

This seems to be a relative of the classic tentacle twist feep, but clearly branched off at some point. Must have evolved in an environment that required more eyeball protection.

Green & Purple Upright Tentacle Twist

As yet, it is unclear whether this is a different species of tentacle twist, or if this is merely the common version sitting in a different position.

Squinty Dragon

It's interesting for me to look at this early feep dragon and compare it to later, more evolved dragons. This one has a lot of the same features as a feep nautilus or feep ghost, suggesting a common ancestor. Could it be true ... ?

I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between a feep devil and a feep demon. Perhaps just a regional variation.

Monitor Octopus

I made this feep a couple of years ago for a project that never quite came together. Since then it has sat on my desk in various capacities. Back in the early days of feepdom CRT monitors were still common, so it wasn't difficult to get most any feep to sit on a monitor. Nowadays, the proliferation of flatscreens means that most feeps can't comfortably sit on most monitors (habitat destruction!). This octopus, however, manages to do so without difficulty and makes me think I should create more flatscreen-friendly feeps (adaptation!).

You probably didn't know that some feeps have jobs. This one is charged with the task of inspecting the gauges of the spots on bananas.

Fiery Taunting Devil

The very first ever taunting devil. As you can see, they had yet to evolve tentacles. Clearly, though, the noodly appendages provided for greater taunting capability and conferred an undeniable evolutionary advantage.

Purple Dino Snoot

While bearing a striking facial resemblance to the Von Snoot, the Dino Snoot actually has an altogether different lineage, and merely exhibits signs of convergent evolution.

Horned Green Blob

I suspect the blob feeps evolved horns in order to keep themselves from being mistaken for candy and eaten.

Purple Glow Devil

Technically speaking, the feeps are genderless entities. They come into being by crawling out of a piece of software, so their reproduction is entirely asexual, sort of like budding. (Alike unto a hydra! I should make a hydra feep.)

Nevertheless, some people, usually kids, are determined to assign genders to specific feeps, and I recall a child informing me that this feep was clearly a girl because of the pink. I think I just said "Is that so?" in response, because the child was of an age where biology class consisted of learning to spell "cat" and "dog."

Feep Colony

Another Feep photo by Dan Machold. Apparently some brick structures are actually made in a coral-like fashion, with each little segment being added on by individual monsters living together as a colony. Of course, I think of feeps as being software-based rather than brick-and-mortar, so perhaps this is simply a metaphor for computer memory partitions.

Feral Feep

I called this one "Feral" because of the slightly defensive stance, but I'm not quite sure how Feeps would actually go feral. I guess they'd have to run away from their developers' computers and start little colonies where they write their own feature-heavy software.
