Green Sledding Slug Feep Orneryment

A succinct summation of how this time of the year can sometimes feel.

Ceramic Beholder Jar

Here's another high school ceramics class monstrosity. The lumpiness kind of works with the disgusting shape a beholder usually has, though I clearly didn't have the patience for all 10 eyestalks. I think in general my high school art classes were exercises in plowing through assignments rather than enjoying the creative possibilities of a given medium. My skill level improved dramatically in college, where things were a bit more freeform. So, while I would never present a piece like this for sale, it's interesting to look back on it to get a sense of my progression.

Monster Candy Jar

This is another of my old creations that's been hiding out at my parents' house for the last mumblety years. Another high school ceramics class assignment, this one was to make a candy jar. While not an especially refined piece, I believe it still shows clearly some of my early exploration of themes involving smart-assery.

White Board Monster

A known risk of putting me anywhere near a white board is that I shall inevitably cover it with doodles alike unto this one. (The red cast is from doing an auto level adjust in Photoshop; I rather liked it, so I left it that way.)

Happy Red Devil Wine Charm

Something or other going on today?

Ceramic Whistle Monster

I made this in my high school ceramics class (which means it's probably from 1992 or 1993), I want to say out of earthenware clay, but I really don't remember. It's a working whistle (though I won't claim it produces a particularly refined tone), and you can see the feepness evident in its design even if it predates the official classification of my monsters as "feeps."

Parade o' Feeps

Somewhere or other my dad has the very first feep ever made. I'm home for the Holidays, so I'm going to see if I can find it and photograph it. Yar!

Pink Striped Blob Necklace

I really wish I knew Latin. "Pink Striped Blob" would sound much cooler in ye olde dead language.

Evil Eyestalk Magnet

Just think, with this magnet on your fridge you can host a little cooking show in your kitchen each night and have a captive audience.

Green Cat

A face much like this one was up close to mine this morning, wondering why I was so intent on this "sleep" thing when there were clearly important tasks to be accomplished.

Magenta Squid

This is the same squid design I usually make into a necklace, but for some reason this time I decided to let it off the leash.

Fire Nautilus Magnet

It's like that moment you show up at the party and realize you're dressed completely differently from everyone else.

Red & Black Cat Snail (Snat)

Here's a question to ponder: do snats move fast or slow?

Monday, November 16, 2009

Purple & Gold Spider

I'm guessing this is one of those spiders that doesn't build a web, and instead uses its tentacle legs to ensnare prey.

Ether Feep

I don't usually give feeps specific names (I like to leave that up to the people who take them home), but for whatever reason I decided this one was called Ether. No recollection as to why.

Tropical Bird Dragon

As you may know, most feeps don't take super-long to make. The idea here is to keep them simple so I can keep them relatively inexpensive. (And also because simplicity is often underrated.) (And also because I have something of a short attention span and prefer projects I'll actually get around to finishing.)

But I do occasionally like to see what happens when I take some time for a bigger, more detailed project, and that's how this dragon came about. For a couple of years it was my showoff piece at conventions.

Magenta Dragon Heron

I realize I haven't been concentrating on figurines as much lately, what with all the prep work for the art show last month and the mugs and shirts and things this month, but that will change in the next couple of weeks. New feeps shall be a-baking soon.

Daily Monster Mug

You may recall a couple of months ago I posted the prototype for a feep coffee mug. Well, yesterday I submitted to the printer the final designs for all the new mug, shirts, and shot glasses (yes, I said shot glasses!). If all goes well, I shall have these items in my clutches in a couple of weeks, just in time for Wheatsville.

For obvious reasons, the Daily Monster needed to be on a coffee mug, but the drawing didn't quite fit the template. So I added a bit of feepish heraldry, for is not coffee a bit of a ritualistic indulgence?

Curly-Horned Monster Necklace

Oh, sure, ball moss wants you to think it's not carnivorous.

Wheatsville is on! Let the panic commence.

Just got my notification of acceptance for the Wheatsville Arts Festival for this year. Evidently there was a delay in getting notifications out as securing space this year was fairly complicated (the Wheatsville Co-op expanded last year, which means art festival space turned into store space). But they got it worked out and are collaborating with other local businesses along Guadalupe to share their parking lot space. So this year I will apparently be outside I Love Video. More deets as the date approaches (it's Dec. 5-6, by the way).

Curly Dog Monster shirt design

Working on a new t-shirt design. This may be hard to see, but you can click on the picture to make it bigger. Anyway, I've had this feep on a shirt before but was never really happy with the background. On this version, the black diamonds are the shirt color (which will presumably be black, because most of my shirts tend to be).

Purple Long-Horned Monster

I think it wants to steal the apple but isn't quite sure how to go about it.

Saturday, November 7, 2009

Green Squid Necklace

You'll want to hitch your squid to a post before going into the saloon, lest it wander off.

Friday, November 6, 2009

Orange Mollusc

I've had a bit of a persistent cough lately, and it feels not unlike one of these has been wandering up and down my trachea.

Fanged Gourd Monster ACEO

One more gourdish monster drawing for you. This one is less obviously food-based than the others. but still holds to the basic gourd shape.

Knotty Gourd Monster ACEO

Another feep gourd for you.

Meanwhile, I am in the midst of putting together some exciting new feep stuff, but it will be a couple of weeks before I can show you. Nevertheless, be forewarned!

Gourdosaur ACEO

I often find many of the decorative gourds that abound at this time of year to be particularly feeplike, so I've done a few drawings of gourds as feeps. This one, if you've been paying attention, is based on a gourd that starred in several feep photos.

Eared Eyestalk with Pie

In this case, its eye may literally be larger than its stomach.

Green Chameleon-Eyed Monster

I need to draw some gourd-inspired feeps today.

Also, don't forget the closing party for the ASG show at the Hideout tonight, from 6:00-9:00. 617 Congress Ave. Be there!
