Mini Mollusc

This Feep was included in my most recent eBay store update of a couple of days ago. It looks like some sort of deep sea creature, but I'm not quite sure what. Not exactly a squid, not exactly a nautilus. Maybe some kind of plankton?

Purple Yowling Cat

Look at the size of that piece of string!

Dungeons & Dragons Wizard Feep

Another feep from the set of commissioned Dungeons & Dragons minis.

Purple Glow Devil

Technically speaking, the feeps are genderless entities. They come into being by crawling out of a piece of software, so their reproduction is entirely asexual, sort of like budding. (Alike unto a hydra! I should make a hydra feep.)

Nevertheless, some people, usually kids, are determined to assign genders to specific feeps, and I recall a child informing me that this feep was clearly a girl because of the pink. I think I just said "Is that so?" in response, because the child was of an age where biology class consisted of learning to spell "cat" and "dog."

Space Earwig iron-on

I've opened a Feeping Creatures Etsy store as a way to maintain an online shop when I'm at shows (I typically take the eBay store down to avoid accidentally double-selling anything), and to take advantage of a marketplace that's specifically geared to handmade items and small runs of reproductions from independent artists.

One of the new items I'm offering are feep iron-ons, made from some of my favorite Feep drawings, so that people can make their own feep shirts. This is especially useful for making shirts for kids since I can't really maintain a huge selection of every size and every color of shirt.

The Etsy store is also going to have listings for a lot of the art that I don't cart to shows, as well as (eventually) a representative gallery of the most popular figurine styles. I'll be adding a lot of stuff over the next couple of weeks, so check back frequently.

Blue Blob

When you're very small and kind of candy-colored you have to stay on the alert at all times, lest you get consumed.

Bird Feep

This is one of the earliest bird feeps I made. It occurs to me that I should make a worm feep so the early bird feep will have something to get.

Black & White Horned Snoot

My cat doesn't try to attack the feeps, unlike some other people's cats. However, she does like to try to sit on my hands while I'm typing up blog posts, making the whole process considerably slower and more difficult. Like right now, for example.

Big Green Snail

We've been having an unusually wet summer here in Texas, which means everything is covered in snails after it rains. Everything. Covered in snails.

Glowing Devil Necklace

I hung this feep on my front door for the photo since the door is green and would provide good contrast. I was half-tempted to leave the feep there since it kind of resembled a door knocker/ward, and would effectively be a sign saying "Welcome to the House of Feep." But I decided to put it in the eBay store instead.

Tentacle Arms

Opening a door can be a real challenge when you're smaller than the doorknob. The sad thing is, the door was locked.

This feep is one of the new ones I put in my Feeping Creatures eBay Store yesterday.

The Pugilist

There have been a couple of boxing feeps, but I don't think they ever officially met so the level of carnage was kept to a minimum.

Startled Green Swirl

This was me yesterday after my website, email, and all the images I host were down for several hours. Things seem to be fine now, but if you tried to browse the eBay store and saw a bunch of listings with no pictures, that's why (images on this blog are hosted by Blogger, so it was unaffected).

Horned Spiral Monster Necklace

This is one of the feep necklaces I took to The Stash last time I was in there. I'm supposed to head over there again today and will have pix of the new feeps ready probably by tomorrow. I'm also at work on the latest feep reorder for Jim Hanley's Universe in Manhattan, so those of you in the New York area can look forward to new retail feeps in the next couple of weeks.

In other news, I donated a feep and some art to the charity auction for Austin theater company the Rude Mechanicals. They're having a benefit party this Saturday which is open to the public, so if you want to help support indie theater and bid on some of my artwork you should check it out.

Dungeons & Dragons Sorcerer Feep

Another feep from the commissioned D&D miniatures set. This feep did not want to be photographed and kept casting spells on the camera to make the pictures come out blurry. Obviously my shortcomings as a photographer were in no way a factor.

Manhattan Twister

Occasionally I'll make a Tentacle Twist that squirms itself into some new and different shape, as per Manhattan here. I really have no idea how I arrived at this arrangement and I'm not at all sure I could recreate it. Not easily, anyway.

Froggy Drop

Despite the word "drop" in the name, this feep is actually classified as a "blob," much like a panda bear is not a "bear" at all, but more like a raccoon. Isn't taxonomy confusing and arbitrary?

Angry Red

I'm actually in a really good mood today, despite my choice of feep photo (I just really like this little guy), as ArmadilloCon went really well and I'm now in the happy situation of having to do a lot of restocking. I'll be working on a bunch of new t-shirts, keychains, and necklaces his week, and I'm sure you'll be seeing some of the results here.

Purple & Black Long-Horned Monster

I really like the lighting in this photo because it looks staged and fake, but was in fact just the way the sunlight was falling on that stump at that particular time.

New shirts for ArmadilloCon

ArmadilloCon starts later today, and I've been working on getting some new stuff ready for the show. I made a handful of t-shirts with my artwork on them: these are done with dark-transfer inkjet iron ons, which I have been experimenting with and have found to be satisfactorily durable (just don't put 'em in the dryer, okay?). If you've been to The Stash you'll have seen a few of these around, but this will be the first time I've brought 'em out for a convention (well, I had one at CAPE, but that doesn't really count). I'm still tweaking the designs a little, so think of these as proofs.

Orange Squid Necklace

It can be a real challenge to get your morning paper when you're only a couple of inches tall.

Wednesday, August 8, 2007

Mutant Swordfish

I didn't intend this as a swordfish per se, I just didn't really know what else to call it. It's more like the swordfish offshoot that lurks at the bottom of the ocean, gobbling up submersibles sent down by 19th century scientists.

Chambered Nautilus Necklace

At some point later today I'll be doing an eBay store update (the last one before ArmadilloCon), and it will include this necklace of a feepified chambered nautilus.

Just as a point of interest, I don't typically do a whole lot of manipulation to the feep photos beyond cropping and adjusting the color balance. For this one, though, I decided to go ahead and 'Shop out a cigarette butt that was lying on the ground under the bench. It didn't really fit in with the mood of the picture. And now you know the awful truth that THIS PHOTO IS A LIE.

Missing Link

This is a personal favorite of mine, which is also my user pic on MySpace. Someone once asked, "But the missing link between what and what?" Maybe one of these days I should make some companion feeps that are obviously "before" and "after."

Green Strings

Charles Stross was the guest of honor at ArmadilloCon a couple of years ago and purchased this feep from me at the show. I don't always remember who buys what, but some just stick in the brain. In this case it was actually because we were discussing the VAT (value added tax, which in the UK is included in the purchase price and is not tacked on at sale time like US sales tax). I had misread his name tag and didn't realize who he was until I saw him signing books later.

Blue Volcano

I'm all headachey from allergies right now, so this is about what I look like.

Also, I think this is the first Gumdrop feep picture I've posted. They're basically, as the name implies, little gumdrop shapes with highly animated expressions. I don't really make them anymore, for whatever reason.

Eyeball Bird

Just a little variation on a theme. I'm not actually sure what it means that two of my regular feep designs have hybridized. Maybe I shouldn't store all the clay in one place?

Thursday, August 2, 2007

Black-Striped Cat

This cat looks a little grumpy about being out in the bright sunlight, making it the opposite of my cat. Of course, this is a glow-in-the-dark cat, which thankfully my cat is not. She already does enough to wake me up in the middle of the night without shining bright lights in my face.

Von Snoot Sea Serpent

I did indeed do a Feep eBay Store update yesterday, in which this curious hybrid feep was included.

Later today I'll be heading to The Stash to drop off some more necklaces, and also to hang some pieces in the Nocturnal Frenzy art show that's opening tomorrow. The reception is Thursday, August 2, from 8:00 - 10:00 pm at The Stash. Stop by if you get a chance!
