Green & Yellow Snail

Some feeps are slow in the morning without their coffee. And some feeps ...

Blue Cat

If you have a cat, you know that look they get on their faces when they are so focused on their next act of great evil that they forget to pretend they're innocent.

Horned Cyclops

I was in a store the other day that had put out its first wave of Thanksgiving merch. I mean, really, I know stores like to primp for the next big holiday as early as possible, but why do they gotta skip Halloween? I crave more spider web-themed furnishings.

Purple Glow Dragon-Heron

ArmadilloCon approacheth! Just over two weeks away, which means it's time to crank up the ol' feeping machine. New monsters are imminent.

Snoot Bird Orneryment

I like to think my ornaments are not beholden to a single season.

Tri-Horned Blue Sea Monster

Rising up out of the depths to say hello. Oh, and to ask a quick question: Is your boat made of low-calorie wood? Just trying to watch the weight, you know, buoyancy and all that.

Dragon Plane

One of the fun things about the very earliest feeps is that I hadn't yet developed any specific styles that I would repeat. Each monster was made up as I went along. Sometimes it's helpful to take a long break from feeping (which is what I've been doing lately, if you hadn't noticed) so that when I return to the clay I don't instantly fall into familiar patterns. I have to stop and think about what I'm doing for a moment, and new creatures tend to emerge.

EDIT: I've had to turn off comments to this post for the time being, as it keeps getting flooded with Japanese spam. No idea why this one post is having this problem, but there it is. Boo.

Blue Swirl and Three-Eyed Sprite

This is about the state of affairs between the cats in my house at the moment.

Feep Parade

Feeps will march with enthusiasm for sure, but focus? You want focus? Focus is for monsters who don'tWHOA, shiny thing!

Grey Snoot

That first shoot was done with only a white card as a background, as I was thinking of them as very straightforward product shots. It quickly became apparent, however, that the feeps photographed best in an environment where they had things to react to, or hide behind, or what have you.

Feep Firsts

The very first tentacle twist meets the very first feep dragon, with the first corkscrew monster (a.k.a. Blue Swirl) looking on. You have no idea how much I wish I could go back and take a file to that dragon to smooth it down, but it was made out of Sculpey III instead of Premo and it would have snapped to pieces.

Suction Slug and Angry Red

I finally found the outtakes from the first feep photo shoot ever, which apparently happened on 4/28/04.

Doggie Raspberry

Some feeps just can't help but mug to the camera. I, of course, was never like that as a child myself, but. But. Clearly they get it from somewhere ... just, you know ... I would never have ...

Hissing Snake Necklace

I've been playing Lego Indiana Jones lately, which features Lego snakes. Lego snakes! [oldmanvoice] I tell you, when I was a kid, if we wanted a Lego snake, we had to make it out of a bunch of those little 1x1 bricks! And we LIKED IT! [/oldmanvoice]

Poolside Von Snoot

Feeps have a pretty high tolerance for heat, what with being baked at 275 degrees for 30 minutes, but still. Texas summers will get to ya.

Monster Chess Match Shadow Box

Chess is only a small part of the battle for alpha supremacy amongst tentacle twists. Other trials include the blank verse poetry head-to-head and the double-blind wine-pairing gamut.

Armored Feep

Armored, yet still afeared of the dangers lurking in the dark.

Curly Dragon and Curly Slug

Just out of shot is the salon where monsters go to get their horns permed.

Horned Orange Bird Monster

This grainy photo documents a rare sighting of the elusive Horned Ledgerbird.

Blue Striped Long-Horned Monster

A monster needs a different kind of window seat.

Sushi Monster

It would appear the appetizers have escaped and fled up a tree.

Purple & Orange Dragon

Just wondering when the maiden will be ready.

Black & Red Spider

Sadly, it is the wrong time of day for casing out crepuscular critters by the crevice.

Horned Round Monster

Sometimes it's just easiest to let crazy cousin Milt go on about little plastic bags as you quietly step away.

Sunday, July 5, 2009

Purple Turtle and Fire Lamprey

It's sort of difficult to sneak up on anyone when you're perpetually in flames. In which case, it's best to pick things that can't run very fast.

Tentacle Round

Nevermind lions and tigers and bears. Raccoons are the true terrors of the suburban forest.

Tentacle Brain

The tentacle brain has very few natural predators. It must chiefly be on guard against mass zombie outbreaks.

Reading Devil

I can tell you're almost at the really intense part, where you are totally not expecting to find out that the murderer was actually the protagonist all along!
